The name Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs is crazy enough, well the music… lives up to the name. I’ll let their bio explain it all, because I can’t decipher enormous dinosaur lingo.

RRRRRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHH A time machine was sent back to just before all the dinosaurs went BOOOOOOOM!!! and died. horribly. and they said “RRAAAGH listen up future kids. we got the big tunes.” and they sorted us out with a few dubplates. prehistoric dubplates made of granite. using the latest in free software the “big tunes” have begun to be uncovered and are ready for your listening.

Hercules and Love Affair and Pat Mahoney

It’s definitely going to be a DFA WEEKEND in Houston Texas!

Hercules & Love Affair

By Dan Weiss

Hercules & Love Affair

I couldn’t say if it was Antony Hegarty’s off-color voice or sodden tunes that pummeled my regurgitation muscles while everyone praised his triumphant debut I Am a Bird Now and this year’s The Crying Light, but in any event, I certainly didn’t expect him to anchor a triumphant bit of Brooklyn neo-disco. Nonetheless, from the first moments of “Time Will”—a boom-boom-snap backing Antony’s eerily sexy and upright command “Don’t lie to me” (a lyrical staple of both pop and disco)—you have to ask: Why didn’t anyone think of this sooner? His quavering acrobatics are a perfect fit for sensational dance music. It’s startling, the ease with which the unrepentant drama queen inhabits this relationship time-out, an unaffected sadness he might yet know. His voice—lonely and forlorn as it’s framed by room-temperature synthesizers buzzing unsympathetically—has finally found its true calling.

It’s a hell of an opening tack for Andy Butler, the DFA-certified DJ who dreamed up the glorious funkscapes on Hercules & Love Affair, the full-length, self-titled expansion of last year’s “Roar”/”Classique #2″ single. Now, we get not just disco divas but Moulin Rouge dioramas in Technicolor surround sound: “Hercules Theme” jams together Kool & the Gang horn lines, lascivious wah-funk, and overhead pinches of strings crashing into booming dollops of kick and snare. If the result doesn’t quite amount to Saturday Night Fever, it certainly turns up the heat: Try the way the agile bass parts jog around “Athene” and “Raise Me Up.”

The party holds strong into the second half, where the comedown always muddles the songwriting a little. Surprise: Antony’s dramatic ululations return to rescue the trawling sonics. Where once it was hard to decide whether he was the problem or merely his tastes, it’s now fun to see Hegarty dropping anchor when Butler’s ambitions get too cumbersome and his slow ones sound out of breath. And when these two guys meet each perfectly—as on the projected summer hit “Blind,” a mélange of Primal Scream’s “Swastika Eyes” and Blur’s “Girls and Boys”—they really do climb to the mythic heights of Hercules’ heroic namesake.

I suggest you all save up your pennies for this weekend!

Who is excited to see Fischerspooner tomorrow night?! We are because those guys put on a fucking cool show. All of you know who they are already there’s no need to explain. And for those of you who don’t, you’re so very late and where the fuck have you been this whole time. Get out of the cave.

Fischerspooner is an art pop performance project created and helmed by Warren Fischer and Casey Spooner that makes music, dance, fashion, film and photography. Their work fuses fine art and pop culture, as in their renowned outsider pop shows bursting with stage effects presented in both art galleries and traditional concert halls. Their full-length albums of music include 1, a punked-up digital party record trussed with conceptual lyrics; and Odyssey, a rich emotional fantasia with a deep, expansive sound

YO HOMEY, YOUR MOM’S DUB-STEP REMIX OF THAT GLASNOST TRACK IS FIRE! HMH: THE REMIX! ROUND 1

ROUND ONE: GLASNOST

Glasnost

YO HOMEY, THAT DUB-STEP REMIX YOUR MOM DID FOR HMH IS FIRE

IMAGINE how tough it must have been to do remixes back in the day. What the hell did they even use?  Reel to reels and shit?  Where would you even begin doing a simple edit with an eight track, let alone a reel to reel?  Ya’ll don’t realize how lucky we are today: banging out a dope mix is as easy as opening up Ableton (or some other inferior software) and getting spunky with the beat repeat and flanger.   So since everyone you know is a producer these days, I can’t wait to review the absurd number of entries we’re about to receive for the FIRST EVER HOUSTON’S MOST HATED REMIX CONTEST!
That’s right guys, we’re throwing down the challenge and ya’ll officially on notice.  Naturally, we’re keeping the subject matter homegrown this time: Houston’s very own synth pop dark horse Glasnost is on the operating table and we wanna hear you guys run wild.  And on the real, this isn’t one of those tired-ass “here’s an accapella ” remix contests you see everywhere these days.  We got the MP3s and stems from three of our favorite Glasnost jams below and we’re calling down the thunder H-motherfuckin-M-H style on this one.

(SPOILER ALERT!!!  IF ANYONE IS FEELING BALLSY AND WANTS TO DO A REMIX WITHOUT HEARING ANY DESCRIPTION AT ALL, STOP READING HERE AND GO RIGHT CLICK THE STEMS AT THE BOTTOM)

In case you’re not up on the ‘nost, their OG sound is uptempo and sounds kinda like Steve Aoki watching an adulterous affair between the Killers and Interpol at 130 BPM.  Yeah, that description is an attempt at being cute but it also gives me some wiggle room because the three songs you guys get to choose from definitely keep it real.  “Come Alone” is a funky, bass-heavy speed walk down a damp dark alley, “Static” is kinda like a Bossanova era Pixies Jam with synths, and “The Great Divide” is a straight up anthemic dance popper that Bloc Party wish they could write.   Luckily, their overall sound and production quality are versatile enough so that while I’d probably drop a nu-rave freak out bomb Le Castlevania would be proud of, I better get to hear some dripping-wet syruppy chop-ups and old school East Baltimore Club bangers.  And I know we got at least a couple progressive house sound boys out there dying to get grandoise on some eight minute long epic shit.  Damn, I’ll bet someone even has a world beat track coming our way.

The deadline for submissions is Friday the 13th of February and on the 14th, we’ll drop a big ass zip file or something on the site and let readers start voting.  But since ya’ll can’t be trusted, half of the score is going to come from our panel of celebrity judges that will include well-known DJs, writers, musicians and other assorted industry riff-raff from across all genres.
So get cracking because in addition to the hardcore internet props you’ll undoubtedly receive, we’re putting the winner on center stage during our banging-ass SXSW party to premiere the track and whatever else he or she has cooked up.  And with the star-studded affair we’re putting together, that’s a hell of a time slot.  Shit, careers have been made on less.
Grab the stems, peruse the offical rules below, and keep on hating.  Holla!

Here are the songs you have to choose from.

Shooting at The Meridian

Did anyone else here about that shooting at the Meridian on Friday night? The news was on in the background this morning when I woke up and I heard something about a shooting in a packed venue. Turns out it was at the Meridian. It was the Texas Thrash show supposedly, hosted by a fraternity. There were many fight breakouts throughout the night and towards the end a shooting happened in a packed parking lot. Go figure right? Only a place packed with brodudes and wannabe tough guys would lead to multiple fights and shootings. Oh, did I mention an off duty officer was shot too? but who gives a fuck about the cops? just kidding. WE LOVE HPD LOLZ

anyways here are further details I stole Ch. 2:

Timmers was shot in the right shoulder by a stray bullet as he tried to help another shooting victim, police said.”He’s not going to back down when there’s a need there, and that’s what he was doing,” said Harris County Precinct 6 Constable Victor Trevino.”There is no indication that the officer shot his weapon. It’s still under investigation just how many shots were fired,” said Corp. J.W. Caldwell with the Precinct 6 Constable Office.Timmers was taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital where he was released later Friday morning. He is now recovering at home. The other shooting victim was also shot in the shoulder and expected to be OK.Police said one of the bullets hit a nearby home and lodged itself in the resident’s laundry room.”I heard something. I was upstairs. I was doing laundry. I would have been dead. You just never know what’s going to happen in downtown Houston,” resident Ivan Rocabado said.Timmers was an officer in the animal cruelty division for over a decade. He has appeared on KPRC Local 2 numerous times in that role. He has been with Precinct 6 for nearly 15 years.Deputies said they believe the shooting stemmed from a fight inside the concert hall that spilled into the parking lot. Detectives questioned numerous people, but they were later released. No arrests have been made.

So to all the brodudes and brohos out there, keep on wearing your Assfliction or Confliction shirts and fighting everyone in plain sight. You might as well go shoot randoms too. Hell, that’s what you do best, keep up the work because everyone loves your stupid drama.
