Winter Family

Where Have You Been My Boy?

Winter Family

Hailing from Jaffa, Israel this hauntingly original duo combines the efforts of poet Ruth Rosenthal and French musician Xavier Klaine.  The pair create minimal melodies utilizing harmoniums, organs, and pianos punctuated by Rosenthal’s dark and dynamic poetry, offering reflections on childhood, war, and religion.  Their first effort, a double disc released by Sub Rosa in September of 2007, laid the frame for their March 2008 release, entitled Where Have You Been My Boy?  [Marienbad Records]

Winter Family, Where Have You Been My Boy?, Indie Blog, Indie Music

The 2008 release contains only two original tracks, Omaha and Shooting Stars.  Unfortunately, we are, at this point, unable to provide these two tracks due to the scarcity of information about Winter Family.  (No, they’re not even on Wikipedia.)  So, for these two tracks, checkout La Blogotheque’s Take Away Shows here.

However, back to the sound of Winter Family, you’ll notice on the first listen the ambiance created by varied recording spaces.  The tracks were recorded in three apartments, a church, and even a parking lot.  This variety of environments lends itself to the ethereal nature of their sound, offering a spatial experience to the audio, reminiscent of experimental jazz recordings from the sixties.

I’d like to tell you that Winter Family’s Where Have You Been My Boy? will enjoy some critical or even commercial success but alas, it likely will not.  Information on the band is scarce, their following is doomed to be small.  However, those of you that will enjoy it, will enjoy it immensely as I have.

the First one is Classy Trashy- she’s going to be giving you all the updates on fashion and dim sum, expect great great things from her.

the next is SSDC and for those of you that don’t know. that’s SouthsideDiscotech.blogspot that’s right.. Kendal over at SSDC has chosen to join our force over here at HMH and push what he’s already known for doing our way. It’s great to have you all on the team and to keep pushing us forward, it’s time to make moves! SSDC is already well known in the blogger community as being a well informed local blog, and I know these new authors will be great additions to the site. so get ready for the take over Houston!

Oh and how can we forget the glorious ShinaRae…just whatever you do, don’t go grabbin this girls ass, PEDRO! hahaha, or else you’ll feel the wrath of what’s to come from this new addition. Keep your drama to yourself or else you’ll be seeing it on the front page the next day. Hide if you can.

It’s good to know that people want to be apart of this movement we’re creating here in Houston and I can’t wait to see our response at this years SXSW and later on at Canadas Pop Montreal Fest…

Big Big Things to come, so get ready. Just sit back and let the good times roll…

Björk, Thom Yorke, Brian Chippendale, Etc.

As I’m surfing the blog world tonight, I came across a name infested collaboration. There’s a new single out for The Nattura Campaign. This new single is written and composed by Bjork and features the collaboration of Radiohead’s Thom Yorke on the wailing back vocals (which I think Thom is the only one that can pull these off pretty well), Brian Chippendale of Lightning Bolt, Matthew Herbert on bass, and Mark Bell on other various beats. I must say I still don’t know what to think of this single yet. I feel like I should be in the jungle or dancing around a flame in the middle of nowhere. Tribal. VERY TRIBAL song. The purchasing of this song goes to an important cause though, the proceeds go to Iceland (of course), providing and discovering eco-friendly ways to utilize all their natural resources. The Nattura Campaign will collect people’s ideas from around the world on how to make sustainable eco-friendly work places for Icelanders. Visit the Nattura Campaign website to learn more.
